Fruits and Veggies


Is it a real surprise to see fruits and vegetables at the top of this page! It should not be. Something we have probably heard from our parents or we tell our children, "eat your vegetables."

Vegetables, the darker the better, stop the over activation of the JNK gene. Fruit, especially the skin, and darker the better, inhibit the JNK gene. You do not need to be a vegetarian, but eat more fruit and veggies!

 

 

 

Eating lean meat is also allowed with the JNK Diet. Trim the fat off the meat, take the skin off the poultry and do not deep fry.

You do not starve yourself. If you do the JNK gene will remain over activated and beyond the loss of muscle mass you will not lose weight or size.

Eat consistently. This means you have a breakfast every morning and you also remain consistent with the percentage of carbs, protein and fats consumed each day. Do not eliminate any of the three; carbs, proteins or fats. You can remove one or two from a meal, but never for the entire day. Try and eat at the same time each day. Remember, we are going for a balance.

Replace mashed potatoes with mashed yams if you ever need that type of dinner. Make a gravy if you wish, but do not use much flour and try and keep the amount you pour over the yams to be less than normal. Use this type of a food as a reward or to help stop cravings for this type of a food. Hold off on the dinner rolls and other breads with a meal of this type. Mashed yams, gravy, lean cut of meat and veggies. Keep the portion in range as well. We really do not require as much food for great health as we might think.

Eat to Survive - Do not Survive to Eat

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) provides excellent tips on eating to improve insulin resistance. You may not diagnosed as a diabetic, but you have a ten-fold increased risk of becoming diabetic if you have taken an antidepressant. Click here and read at least the first page of the National Institutes of Health site regarding insulin and diabetes. It does apply to each and every one of you.

Not all of us have a problem with portion size, so we will not harp on that further. Just know, if you leave the dinner table and you are stuffed, you have eaten too much for sure, and probably the wrong foods if they were not fruits, veggies and a small portion of a lean meat.

These foods and spices will help inhibit the JNK gene:

  • Almonds

  • Cayenne pepper

  • Cloves

  • Curcumin

  • Garlic (Fresh garlic only. Thirty minutes or less before meal preparation, press fresh garlic. Using garlic in any other manner or a non-fresh garlic will have the reverse effect)

  • Ginger (Use as spice or drink at least 2 cups of ginger tea each day)

  • Green Tea Extract (a cup or 2 of green tea each day)

  • Omega 3 fish oil (at least 2,000 mg of pure fish oil daily. Omega 3 fish oil will deplete vitamin E from the body. Supplementing with 400 i,u, of vitamin E daily is recommended if taking fish oil)

  • Oranges

  • Papaya

  • Paprika

  • Red Pepper

  • Reishi

  • Tomato (the skin is the important part of the tomato for JNK reduction)

  • Vegetables

  • Eat lean meats, plenty of vegetables and fruit.

  • To round out a meal, try purple sweet potato. The Purple Okinawa Sweet Potato is the ideal choice. They look the same on the outside as common sweet potatoes, but the inside is definitely purple. This type of sweet potato will help reduce the JNK gene activation. You might find this purple sweet potato also being called purple yams at your grocery. Bake the purple sweet potato in the oven for about 50 minutes at 350 degrees.

To Jump Start Weight Loss

The first 3 days of your new diet eat fruit, vegetables and almonds only. Snack on raisins and almonds throughout the day to avoid hunger. Eat an entire cantaloupe for dinner along with any other fruit or vegetables if you wish.

This might seem like you will be starving yourself, but you will actually remain full and probably notice a good energy level and a clarity in thought like you have not experienced in quite a while.

The next 3 days reward yourself with a light protein meal along with fruit and vegetables at diner or lunch.

After 3 days, return to the fruit, vegetables and almonds only for 3 additional days.

This will get your body working again and allow that stubborn weight gain the ability to come off.

It is fine to continue with rotating the 3 days of fruit, vegetables, almonds and lean meat until you have lost all of the weight desired. Just watch to make sure you do not revert back to old habits.

The food portion of the JNK Diet is this easy. DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF.
